Whilst we are here: please allow me to write a little about Chip It and how we started.

Tuning is what this power of the Chip It Module is what this comes down to. Remember we come out of the engine performance industry, racing and drags. We are not a marketing company selling a product. What we needed was a product that allowed full tuning interface so that we could tune on the run (on the dyno etc) in REAL TIME.

When we looked around there was nothing available. No one gave us the ability to tune (turning a variable resistor on the front face is NOT tuning). We needed to be able to increase (or decrease) the fuel map as the engine determined. Adding more resistance to a signal to increase fuel didn’t cut it for us as an increase of say 18% would give us a linear (actually scalar) increase. IE 10% increase right through the rev range. But if we achieved a good power increase in the mid range we didn’t want the same percentage up the top of the rev range because the vehicle would blow smoke. What we needed was the ability the add say 18% in the mid range and the scale it down to say 10% up top so that we got the best torque curve down low without the smoke up high.

So to achieve this we had to develop the board ourselves.

Furthermore, we saw the need to add more air (boost) to the tune, not only more fuel. We have a good write up about EGTs [URL="http://www.chipit.com.au/faq/why-are-egts-important-1"]here.[/URL].

All other chips were just throwing in fuel with no regards to EGTs and since at ANY time you add fuel, you increase EGTs this was a major issue.
So not only did we add boost control as a free built-in feature which gave us a better Air Fuel Ratio it also kept EGTs lower.

However, for us is wasn’t enough, we also wanted an OVERALL EGT protection circuit so we built the Chip to piggy back with another EGT module that actively monitors the EGTs. When the EGTs get too high the Chip would DE-TUNE. It was another industry first.
A short time later, what we come up with was so good that Diesel Performance Mechanics around the country were hearing about us and mentioning that is was about time something like this made it to market. The full package including EGT controller (which also has a LED in cabin display) was only $1299.00 (the set-up Ray has does not NOT include the EGT controller and is only $899 …some $500 less than our nearest competitor DP). Even with the EGT controllers we are still cheaper. but the features go FAR beyond.
